FBM KLCI - lower on profit taking

Stocks on Bursa Malaysia closed lower yesterday on profit taking by late fund selling of key index stocks after Monday’s strong rebound, despite the bullish performance in most Asian markets. Sentiment on the local bourse remained wary over issues relating to 1MDB and the potential Fitch Ratings downgrade by end-June. The FBM KLCI was 5.9 points or 0.34% lower at 1,726.86, after moving between 1,726.86 and 1,734.97 throughout the day. Losers led gainers 407 to 395, with 327 counters unchanged. FBM KLCI - sign of rebound

Stocks on Bursa Malaysia closed weaker yesterday on persistent profit taking in selected heavyweight counters amid the mixed performance on regional bourses. Regional markets were mixed due to weaker Chinese factory data, as well as growing concerns over the US’ economic growth. The benchmark FBM KLCI slipped 4.11 points or 0.24% to 1,743.41 after hovering between 1,732.27 and 1,752.08 throughout the day. Losers outpaced gainers by 436 to 378, while 2870 counters were unchanged. Total volume declined to 1.61 billion units, worth RM1.81 billion, from 2.23 billion units, worth RM3.69 billion, recorded on Friday. Read more >>

FBM KLCI - higher on follow through rebound

Stocks on Bursa Malaysia bucked regional trends to close higher yesterday lifted by gains in selected plantation heavyweight counters, as well as Petronas Chemicals and Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The local stock market remained resilient despite the weaker regional markets which drifted after weak US retail sales figures suggested the world’s largest economy is struggling to maintain growth momentum. At close, the benchmark FBM KLCI rose 4.53 points or 0.25% to 1,807.55, after hovering between 1,803.63 and 1,807.9 throughout the day. Gainers led losers 411 to 355, with 359 counters unchanged. FBM KLCI - sign of bottoming

Stocks on Bursa Malaysia closed higher yesterday, propped up by buying sentiment as traders took the opportunity of the market’s weakness amid expectation of a further monetary stimulus in China. Asian shares advanced as investors focused on hopes of a further stimulus from Beijing to prevent a sharper slowdown in the world’s second-largest economy. FBM KLCI - likely to stay range-bound


Stocks on Bursa Malaysia rebounded to close higher last Friday with the benchmark FBM KLCI closed slightly higher, lifted by sustained buying momentum in heavyweights, led by Maybank and Sime Darby, in line with its regional peers due to a stabilising global bond market. At close, the FBM KLCI was 2.55 points or 0.14% higher at 1,807.65, after fluctuating between 1,805.35 and 1,814.28 throughout the day. On a weekly basis, the FBM KLCI fell 10.62 points from 1,818.27 on previous Thursday. Gainers led losers 461 to 315, with 325 counters unchanged. Total volume was slightly lower at 1.52 billion shares worth RM1.93 billion from Thursday’s 1.55 billion shares worth RM1.97 billion. FBM KLCI - higher on technical rebound

Stocks on Bursa Malaysia closed mixed yesterday with the benchmark FBM KLCI closed higher, lifted by gains in selected heavyweights led by Petronas Chemicals and Genting. Key Asian markets were cautious after the Shanghai Composite Index fell more than 4%, fuelled by media reports of tougher margin requirements by some brokerages. At close, the FBM KLCI rose 9.15 points or 0.5% to 1,827.42 after fluctuating between 1,818.16 and 1,830.9 throughout the day. Losers led gainers by 434 to 362 with 321 counters unchanged.
