FBM KLCI - likely to chart new high

Stocks on Bursa Malaysia ended firmer last Thursday with the FBM KLCI closing at an all-time high, lifted by persistent buying in selective blue-chips in telecommunications, banking and construction stocks. The local bourse was higher in line with regional peers, despite negative leads from the US after the Federal Open Market Committee did not say anything new after its meeting on Wednesday. The benchmark index rose 3.9 points or 0.23% to 1,671.89 after opening 0.53 of a point higher at 1,668.52, and on a weekly basis, it gained 5.54 points from 1,666.35. Its previous all-time high was at 1,670.16 recorded Friday the previous week. Gainers led losers by 391 to 306, with 327 counters unchanged. Volume rose to 1.44 billion shares valued at RM1.28 billion from 1.13 billion shares worth RM1.46 billion on Wednesday. Weekly turnover declined to 4.859 billion shares valued at RM5.562 billion from 5.956 billion shares worth RM7.976 billion last Friday.
